Lisa Firlotte, B.A., B.Ed., OCT
Lisa is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) who has been employed by Bright Spot Therapy Services since 2019. She received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Child and Youth Studies and her Bachelor of Education through the concurrent education program at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario.
Lisa’s “Bright Spot” is providing evidence-based structured literacy intervention to anyone struggling with reading or writing. By using multisensory teaching strategies and explicit, systematic instruction Lisa helps her students understand the connection between sounds, syllables, words, and longer written works. She is passionate about literacy instruction and actively pursuing continuing education in the science of reading. Lisa completed her coursework in the Orton-Gillingham Approach at the associate level during the summer of 2022. She anticipates continuing to learn about effective research-based literacy intervention practices she can bring to her clients.
Born and raised in Timmins Ontario, Lisa is excited to be able to help children in the North find confidence in their reading and writing abilities and learn skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Lisa has experience in a variety of education contexts including: providing reading/writing intervention to children with learning disabilities through the LDANR, teaching adults as a teaching assistant in the Department of Child and Youth Studies at Brock University and working with students grades K-12 as a teacher for District School Board Ontario North East. Lisa has enjoyed the challenge of applying her skills in a clinical context as a Speech Therapy Assistant and deepening her understanding of the relationship between speech, language, and literacy. She looks forward to continuing to apply this knowledge in literacy intervention and speech therapy.
